The southernmost part of the entrance channel is Newport (Zenobia) Rock Channel four miles S of the harbour. It is about two cables (370 m) wide, dredged to 11.5 m (38') LAT and marked by light-buoys and Newport Rock light. East Channel, between Kalah Kebira (Green Island) coral reef and Qad El-Marakib coastal bank leads NNE to the Suez Canal. Depth 12.5 m (41') LAT over a width of some two cables (300-370 m). West Channel leads S, W and N of Kalah Kebir in depths of 18 m to 11 m (59'-36').
